Lucent Launcher
Now: In development
A native Minecraft launcher written in Rust with GTK4 and Libadwaita. The interface is declared in GtkBuilder XML; installation, metadata handling, launch-command construction, and process prep run in Rust worker code, off the UI thread.
The launcher core is vendored in the repo (mc-launcher-core), so backend fixes don't wait on a registry release. It installs Vanilla, Fabric, Quilt, Forge, and NeoForge, merges version metadata and libraries, and constructs the Java launch command. The core's 38 tests pass.
Where it stands: working in bursts, not released. The most recent work added resource-pack installation and management, Flatpak packaging, and a readiness-aware launch flow. Development happens in the open: github.com/AStellarScene/lucent-launcher.
What it does
- Install and launch Vanilla, Fabric, Quilt, Forge, and NeoForge
- Profiles with stable IDs and atomic saves
- Modrinth discovery and profile-scoped content, including resource packs
- Microsoft sign-in held in the system keyring
